SLICES-SC Summer School
Place: Volos - Tsalapata Building
Open-RAN/Core/Edge Solutions for Cloud-Native Telco Experimental Platforms
This three-day school will take a deep-dive into some of the available open-software and hardware solutions for building experimental telco networks that can be used by researchers to develop innovations leading to 6G network architectures in initiatives such as SLICES-RI, PAWR, Fabric and Horizon Europe SNS JU. A key objective of the school is to highlight cloud-native tools leading to fully converged cloud and telecommunication infrastructures. We will cover initiatives including O-RAN, ONF Aether/SD-Fabric/SD-RAN, OpenAirInterface RAN and Core, Mosaic5G, Magma and related cloud-native frameworks based on Kubernetes. In addition, for newcomers to the 3GPP ecosystem, we will also provide a crash course on 3GPP networks and protocols. Current lecturers are from key players in the experimental wireless research community : Sorbonne Université, NITOS, EURECOM, INRIA, CNR, PAWR, FABRIC, ONF, …
Examples of seminars include:
• An overview of Cloud-native tools for Telco Networks (1h)
• Inside O-RAN E2, RIC and xAPPs (1h)
• ONF I : SD-Fabric (incl. P4 basics) and Aether (1.5h, incl. Lab session on INRIAs SOPHIA-NODE cluster)
• ONF II : SD-RAN and ONOS (1h)
• E2E OAI/FlexRIC deployment (1h incl. remote demo using EURECOM’s SOPHIA-NODE clusters)
• SDR tools for experimentation: An Overview of NI USRPs and their use in experimental platforms (1h)
• Service and Edge platforms and paradigms (1h)
• 3GPP 5G RAN architecture (3h, split over 3 days, including illustrations with OAI RAN)
• 3GPP 5G Core architecture (3h, split over 3 days, including illustrations with OAI 5GC)
